The Need for Federal Oversight of the Mount Vernon Police Department

Fios1 News Report: First on FiOS1: Mt. Vernon activist says police leaders are involved in criminal activity

Our organization has been monitoring the Mt. Vernon Police Department under the leadership of Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas.

The recent events involving the Mount Vernon Police Department in their pattern and practice to cover up unethical and illegal incidences that involve Deputy Police Commissioners, Police Officers, and Civilian Employees has cause the need for concern of the citizens of Mt. Vernon and especially the law enforcement community throughout the state of New York.

As a national organization of Law Enforcement Professionals, we see no recourse other than intervention from Preet Bharara and U.S. Attorney’s Office to intercede with independent oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Department.

Our organization has forwarded all our findings and made official request for investigation of the pattern and practices of the Mount Vernon Police Department to the Westchester County District Attorneys Office, New York State Attorney Generals Office and the United State Attorney’s Office of the Sothern District of New York.
